From taking pictures of the ultra-urban Philadelphia skyline only two days ago, we’re suddenly immersed in greenery, with baby Bambi grazing around outside our tent, and bear warnings at all campsites. Welcome to Shenandoah National Park, where you’re just as likely to be neighbours to a deer as a bear.
- The view is amazing from Skyline Drive
- The clouds came rolling in and caught us by surprise, dampening all our clothes
- 7 a.m on a misty morning – breakfast time for Bambi!
- There really was a big meadow at Big Meadow Campground!
- At the beginning of a 7-hour trek. Little does she know!
- Friendly forest guides accompany trekkers all the way down to the river
- The waterfall at Rose River Loop
- A bridge across a babbling brook? I’m definitely getting a pic!
- Quaint bridges dot the forest and help trekkers cross long distances faster
- Trees felled by flash thunderstorms over Rose River Loop
